OPS: Oportunidades para ser
Description:
During the July school holidays, Grupo Texas presented OPS: Oportunidades para ser, a children's play built around inclusion from the ground up. Working with Sintagma, the team designed and implemented accessibility tools woven into the show's own stage language: live audio description and pre-made Spanish subtitles.
The audio description was folded organically into the show's soundtrack as a voice-over, letting people with visual disabilities follow the visual elements of the staging without any additional devices. At the same time, custom-designed subtitles were projected in keeping with the play's aesthetic and pacing, allowing deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences to follow the dialogue, songs, and ambient sounds.
Sintagma supported the rehearsals leading up to opening night with an audio describer and an advisor with a visual disability, working alongside the directing team on a proposal that was both artistic and accessible. A technician was also present at every performance to operate the subtitle projection.
