We make accessibility happen
We develop accessibility solutions for cultural, audiovisual, and communication projects.
What do we offer?
We offer comprehensive accessibility services that combine technical expertise, cultural sensitivity, and collaborative work. Each service includes specific sub-services that can be combined to fit each project's needs.
Accessibility tool implementation
Each accessibility tool can be delivered live or pre-recorded, and applied across different contexts. We offer custom design and development tailored to the technical and creative needs of each project.
Audio description
Audio description translates visual information into words through narration that accompanies a video or performance. It's a condensed narration that describes the visual information relevant for everyone to understand and enjoy the content.
At Sintagma, we design and produce audio description for audiovisual content, exhibitions, performances, and live events, integrating it in a clear, sensitive, and contextual way.
Subtitling
Subtitling translates the sound elements of audiovisual content or a performance into on-screen text. It can be done within the same language or between different languages. When it also includes relevant information about music, effects, or sounds beyond the dialogue, it's known as descriptive subtitling. From a more creative angle, subtitles can be designed to better fit the piece and offer a better audience experience.
We produce descriptive and creative subtitling, both intralingual and interlingual, for live events as well as audiovisual content and performances, paying close attention to readability, reading pace, and the visual coherence of the subtitles with each project.
Sign language
Sign language is the natural language of deaf people and their communities. In audiovisual content, performances, and events, integrating it makes information accessible through translation or live interpretation.
We produce translations and coordinate interpretation in Uruguayan Sign Language for content, events, and performances. We work with mixed translation teams —made up of deaf and hearing professionals— and handle the filming, editing, and integration of the interpretation into the content or display device.
Advising and Support
We support institutions, organizations, and teams looking to build accessibility into their projects. These processes help identify barriers, review existing practices, and design strategies to integrate accessibility in a planned, sustainable way.
Consulting
Consulting engagements let us analyze projects, spaces, or production processes from an accessibility perspective. This can include evaluating existing proposals, defining strategies for new projects, or supporting the rollout of accessible resources.
We tailor each consulting engagement to the project at hand, combining analysis, dialogue with the teams involved, and concrete proposals to improve or integrate accessibility.
Training workshops
Our trainings are designed to share tools, concepts, and methodologies that help different teams build accessibility into their everyday work practices.
We develop training sessions for cultural institutions, organizations, communication teams, and audiovisual production teams, adapting the content and format to each group's needs.
Content production
We develop content designed to be accessible from conception. This means factoring in language, design, information structure, and distribution formats, so the pieces can be understood and enjoyed by diverse audiences.
Audiovisual content
Accessible audiovisual content factors in, from the planning stage, elements that make visual and audio information easier to understand. This can involve decisions about narrative pacing, the use of clear visual elements, adding textual information, or integrating accessibility tools depending on the project.
We produce accessible audiovisual pieces for a range of uses, such as institutional videos, social media content, educational materials, records of cultural projects, or outreach pieces for media and digital platforms.
Graphic content
Accessible graphic content aims to make information easier to read and understand through design decisions related to typography, contrast, visual hierarchy, and clear organization of elements in each piece.
We develop accessible graphic materials for a range of communication contexts, such as social media pieces, informational or educational materials, signage, activity programs, posters, or institutional communication pieces.
Editorial content
Accessible editorial content aims to make text easier to read and understand through decisions related to editorial design, information structure, legible typefaces, and features that support navigation and access to the content for everyone.
We support editorial development, building accessibility criteria into print and digital publications, such as books, catalogs, educational materials, or institutional publications.
